Our outcomes research indicates that over 90% of residents who complete the Busara program do not return to the hospital. This is significant because our residents have a history of multiple treatment experiences.

What is provided to me when I arrive at Busara?
We recognize that you may not have everything you need when you arrive at Busara. We have velvet hangers, laundry detergent, laundry baskets, iron and ironing board, towels, sheets, blankets, bath soap, beach towels for the pool - most all that you will need.
What kind of clothes should I bring?
What we wear often represents what we think of ourselves. Nothing too tight or revealing - we want the emphasis on healing, not on what someone is wearing. The same goes for bathing suits. We ask that you limit the amount of clothing and personal items that you bring as you willing be sharing a room with another resident.
What about my medicines?
All medicines are kept in a locked cabinet. Only the House Manager on duty and Dr. Chester have access to medicines. Ideally you will keep track of when you should take your medicine, however we will be aware as well. If there is an change in your medicines, we expect you to tell us on the day that the change is made.
How does food work?
Food is often a trigger for women and we do understand. Staff is available to talk about reactions to food and eating in general. We will always have women with different preferences and needs. We will accommodate to the level that we are able, however, the house itself is not strictly vegan, vegetarian or any other type of eating style. The Busara residents work together weekly to decided on their joint menu for evening dinners throughout the week. There are a variety of items available for breakfast and lunch.
Do I purchase my food?
Yes, each resident has areas that are designated for their particular food items, both refrigerated and non-refrigerated. Given the respectful community of Busara, we have found that this honor system works well. We have a well stocked kitchen, including pots and pans, blender, air fryer, crock pot - you name it, we likely have it. We find that keeping track of your food and when to purchase is an easy lesson in life management.
What is the schedule like?
Our goal at Busara is successful recovery and vibrant independent living. We find that having a regular time to start the day and end the day is part of a helpful daily rhythm. Mornings start around 7 am and ends around 10 pm. Morning and evening meditation groups bookend the day. We expect that each resident has a clear idea of what they are wanting to accomplish for the day and the week in terms of their recovery activities. These planned accomplishments are reviewed weekly with staff. Dr. Chester is aware of each residents schedule and their progress.
Ideally each day includes some type of movement, learning, reflection and integration around a recovery or therapeutic topic. the resident should be attending recovery meetings and therapeutic sessions and meetings as needed. Some form of employment, volunteer work or educational progress is also a part of the residents schedule. We expect that each resident is a part of the Busara community and is supportive of their fellow resident and their recovery goals.
GIven the individual nature of each resident's schedule, a daily community dinner is not possible. We do ask that residents plan their schedule to attend a once per week community dinner and meeting where residents can stregthen their relationships with one another. This meeting is on Sunday evening.

What Is The Weekend Schedule Like?
Saturdays allow our residents to rest a bit from the week and to complete the necessary chores that make life easier for the following week. Residents often use Saturday to in the community and enjoy new experiences either with another resident or friend or family. Sundays are a time where residents can attend spiritual services of their choice, prepare for the week ahead and reflect on the accomplishments of the week. We have a house meeting on Sunday evening to prepare for the week in terms of menu and other house activities.
Can I Have People Over To Busara?
Residents are welcome to meet friends or family members out of the house as long as they are progressing in their recovery. Given the nature of the house, we do not want anyone in Busara that is not a resident or staff member. This allows each resident a sense of privacy.
Does Busara provide transportation?
Residents are able to use Uber, Lyft or other transportation services to attend their recovery groups, therapies or get to other appointments.
What can I expect in terms of expenses?
Each resident is responsible for their personal expenses. For example, food, medicines, co-pays for doctor visits, haircuts and transportation.
Is it possible to get a monetary credit for days that the resident is not at Busara due to a holiday or other family event?
We prefer that residents remain in Busara's structured support home for the entirety of the term in which we are supporting their recovery. We understand that family, work, and other life matters may make it necessary for the resident to spend short periods elsewhere. During those periods, their bedroom spaces are still allocated to their use, the staff remain attuned to their recovery goals and progress, and all other aspects of the home aside from their physical attendance and sleeping remain. Due to this, a monetary credit is not extended to the resident for any stays away from Busara.
What about Vaping?
Busara is a substance free home. Vaping is allowed outside of the main home only. We have procedures around the vape and the associated materials and pre and post vape check-in.. For futher clarification, please speak to Dr. Chester.
What if I have other questions?
Feel free to contact Dr. Chester and she will be happy to speak with you about any questions you may have.
