WHAT HOME LOOKS LIKE

As I was really getting to know my husband while we were dating, I realized that it didn't matter what I looked like- perfect face or not, hair in place or not, grumpy or smiling, he still loved me and was happy to be around me (most times). 

I felt that he loved me like my parents - unconditionally. It was a very relaxing feeling. I didn't have to prove myself, I could just be myself. This felt like a very different experience than with other men that I had dated. It wasn't that those experiences weren't positive, it's just that I could just be more fully me with him. For his part, my husband felt like he had "come home". 

The feeling of coming home, feeling safe and accepted, coming as you are as our entry sign proclaims, is what we want each of our residents to experience while they are with us. It's impossible to make long-lasting change any other way. 

Each resident comes with differences that are embraced because they make our Busara community stronger. We also understand that our differences sometimes make us feel fragile, a bit untethered and in need of a steady hand. 

Our House Managers are chosen for their compassionate heart and Clinical knowledge. They are awake in the night to reassure or just to be, and present during the day to encourage and teach. Each resident is enveloped in care while in community at Busara.

The care radiates from our House Managers and also from our residents one to another. There may be grumpy days, but we accept that grumpy days teach just like smiling days. We come as we are each day. I hope that you have had the experience whether in your past or in the present, where you have felt loved, adored and respected, no matter the mood or behavior.
